National Park “Central Balkan”

National Park “Central Balkan” is a host to the International Forum for the application of the UNESCO program “Man and biosphere”. The seminar started on the 11th of November in the town of Apriltsi and it will continue until 15th November. Representatives of countries from South Eastern Europe will participate in the forum. It is organized by the local office for science and culture of UNESCO. Actual information, related to the program “Man and biosphere” will be presented at the forum and the action plan and other documents will be discussed.
The program of the seminar includes presentations and discussions for the benefits of nature reserves and the opportunities which they give for the preservation of the biodiversity and economic development of the regions. Opportunities for certifying of local products, as well as boosting of “green” business in the regions will be discussed in detail.
The work meeting will be held in the area of National Park “Central Balkan”, as it is enlisted in the register of UNESCO cultural heritage with its four biosphere reserves-“Tsarichina”, “Boatin”, “Djendema” and “Steneto".
The Park is certified by the European net and it belongs to the world protected lands “Pan Parks”.
Bulgaria joined to the program “Man and Biosphere” in 1977 and sixteen Bulgarian reserves on the territory of the country are declared for biospherical.
